SKATE CANADA IN VICTORIA, BC
3-5 November 2006

I am unapologetic in my love of figure skating. It's a fantastic sport, and it's as much fun to watch as it is to actually do. A friend of mine asked if I wanted to go to Skate Canada, which was being held in Victoria this year, so I decided to check it out, since I'd never been to a live skating competition before.

The last time I was in Canada, I was five, and we were in Toronto. I had heard a lot about Victoria but had never really thought of it as a place I might visit. The city is absolutely beautiful, and I was happily surprised at how gorgeous everything was, how nice the people were, and just how fabulous the vibe is there. I will definitely be going back.

Skate Canada itself was an experience -- good in some ways, not so good in others, surreal at times. I could write more, but everything I would say is in my journals here, so I won't be redundant. I will say that watching a live skating competition is a million times better than watching it on television.

I'm glad I went. This was one of the best weekends I'd had all year.
